Messiah's Mission of the Quarter:
The Carlos Family

Messiah's Mission of the Quarter is the Carlos Family. Jack and Cathy Carlos serve as missionaries in Guinea, West Africa to the Maninka people. Their children, Raymond and Hannah, attend school in the U.S. The Mission Team will help YOU become acquainted with this family through prayer, giving, and testimony. To learn more about the Carlos family visit them online at http://carlostribe.wordpress.com/about-us/.

Prayer Request for the Carlos Family

Please continue to pray for Jack and Cathy Carlos. Lord, we ask you to keep Jack and Cathy steadfast in your love and your will. We pray that your missionaries will follow Paul’s advice to the Corinthians, “Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58). The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. Amen.

  Support the Carlos Family

Jack and Cathy Carlos are Network Supported Missionaries. This is the new fund-raising and missionary support model the LCMS church is using. All career missionaries are supported totally by churches and individuals. Their support no longer comes out of the general budget in St. Louis. Before being deployed to their field of service, each missionary must raise two years of support. For Jack and Cathy Carlos, who are two missionary units, that is $300,000. Therefore, it is very important for churches to get involved in supporting missionaries to other areas of the world. Messiah is privileged to have Jack and Cathy make a visit to Messiah the end of August.

Donate

If you are interested in contributing to Jack and Cathy's mission, please send a check to LCMS World Mission. On the memo line include “Carlos Support-50299.” Please send donations to The Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod, Attn: LCMS World Mission, 1333 S. Kirkwood Road in St. Louis, MO 63122-7295.

Costa Rica Mission Trip
July 2-11

The Costa Rica mission team appreciates all the donations and support from Messiah. Nine volunteers went on the mission trip. Messiah is the sending congregation that equipped and supported us, and prayed for us before and during the trip. For all of this, the mission team sends a huge thank you!

Prayer of Support

Heavenly Father, You have been working in our hearts to bring us to this point of going as servants to share Your Word with so many that don't know you in Heredia, Costa Rica. God, you have been faithful to guide and direct our preparation and mission work. Thank you for your glory as we taught ESL and shared your Word through Bible stories and conversation. Amen.

LAMP Mission Trip
August 5-15

The team of missionaries from Messiah going on the LAMP (Lutheran Association of Missionary Pilots) trip have committed to driving 23 hours to Southend Saskatchewan to a community of approximately 1,500 people, 700 of which are children. The average age of this community is 27 years old with 50% of the population under the age of twelve. Life expectancy for these people in this area is in the late 40's.

The team from Messiah consists of twelve members (including five youth). Their role is to provide VBS to the children, build relationships among the community, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please pray for God's unending faithfulness to this team as they plan and prepare for their trip.

For more information, contact Kelly Heid.

  Communication Blog

The LAMP team is using a blog to communicate their mission trip activities as they prepare to go to Canada and during their trip. The goal is to have blog posts daily to share information with family, friends, prayer partners, and Messiah. Each member of the team is encouraged to make entries to share different perspectives. The blog address is http://messiahlamp.blogspot.com.

Seeking Donations

Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides relief and human care services while planting and nurturing missions on the U.S./Mexico border (El Paso/Juarez Region). Ysleta Lutheran Mission is a Recognized Service Organization of the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod.

In February of 2010, four members of Messiah traveled to YLM to help with a variety of needs in the area. Messiah continues to remember this mission in both prayer and service. One of their needs at the present time is for new or gently used Bibles for any age. Since these Bibles are given to individuals and families held in the border detention, the Bibles need to be paperback for safety regulations and written in either the English or Spanish language. A box is located in the Upper Commons Area for donations. For more information, go to www.ylm.org or contact Cheryle Kludt.
